My boss Wade Wilson "like the old quarterback" claims to hold the record for largest black crappiei in 1974. He says the fish weighed 4 lbs 1 1/4 ozs. The fish was caught at Lake Sherwood in Ventura county California. Is there any way to find out what the record was for black Crappie for 1970 - 1974 (just in case his memory is off a few years) He says the International Spin Fishing Assoc. certified the record. Please help me prove or disprove this claim. Thanks for you time.

Here is a link that sheds some skepticism on the subject because the current record was caught in 1975 and only weighed 4 lbs 1 ounce.

Thanks Ray,

I am aware of the 1975 record which is why I'm skeptical. That is why I'm trying to find out what the earlier records were just to prove my point. Or maybe he is wrong about the weight and it was under 4 lbs 1 oz. either way I need to find the earlier records and any info you can give me would be helpful.

My name is Butch Brown from castaic calfornia and came accross this site while looking at photos of big crappiei becouse I have seen a few in my time. But this is about wade,s 4Lb 1oz crappie. Im 52 years old and was there on the water in site of wade and his dad fishing.I was in my boat a lake local. wade and his dad were in a rental row boat throwing floating rapalas and yes I saw wade catch that crappie it was (giant) my 5Lb bass I had that day wasn,t much bigger. I watched it get weighed at the boat office scale by lake manager doug collins 4Lb 1oz totaly true no bull it tied the clear lake record at the time and was in western outdoor weekly magazine and the lake had it mounted for him keeped it for displayed for a year and gave it to him thats way I know what a big crappie looks like at the time a man named turner jones was fishing lake sherwood and created the micro jig I new him well he later moved to missouri. Thanks Butch Brown (Boss wade is no Bull)I'm a bass fisherman that likes catching them and once in a while eating,em. punch up Butch Brown bass on your computer or utube you will see I'v been around. 2/19/11
