I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for single pole jigging. I've done it a few times in the past with very little success. I was just looking for any tips anyone might have that might help me out a little bit.

Hey Bigcountry. Now you are talking my language. Single pole jigging is my favorite method of catching crappiei. The main key to being successful at single pole fishing is finding staying on good cover. With a single pole you can get down in that cover where trolling just can not go.
(1) I approach cover quietly as possible and hold on it with minimal use of the trolling motor.
(2) Use a light weight sensitive pole and light line 4 to 6 lb so you can feel your way around the cover.
(3) I start out most of the time dropping the jig to the bottom then reel up about 6". If the crappie seem to catch the jig on he way down adjust your jig up until they hit at that depth. Once you find the strike zone stay in it.
(4) I really think jigging the jig should be a very small movement (Max 2") with a pause between each jig motion. The crappie will typically hit just after the jigging motion when the jig rests again.
(5) When I am looking for fish I spend no more than 10 min on a spot. Once I catch fish I will move anytime I go 10 min. without a bite.
(6) You only have one bait in the water so having the right color is imperative. Lighter combinations with full sun and dark when overcast. Use combinations of colors so you cover more of the spectrum (example: pink head, black and chartreuse skirt).
“Nothing like feeling the thump”. Go give it a try.
