Trolling Motor Rope

Ok, I'll break down an ask. Do any of you guys ever break the release rope on your trolling motor? Is there a way to stop this? It always seems to happen at the worst times.

Yep.. I broke the one on my prior trolling motor twice. The first time I replaced it I evidently lost a little plastic collar that prevents the rope from wearing where it rubs against metal so it broke again. The next time I replaced the little plastic collar that slides over the rope and I got a higher quality lawn mower pull rope and never happened again. Man it is tough to fish with one that is broke that is for sure.
