I fished Columbus Lake on Sat and Sun. and felt like I was the only crappiei fisherman left in Columbus. I only saw one other boat crappie fishingi all weekend. I guess they all took up skiing. Saturday I fished the main lake out near the main channel. Had a great morning catching about 25 white crappie in 3 hours. They were in about 8 feet of water on a ledge and near the bottom. I weighed the biggest 7 fish and they tipped the scales at 9 lbs 1 ounce. I released to 2 biggest fish that weighed 1 1/2 pounds each and kept a mess to eat that are in the picture. The fish were still biting that orange head and chartreuse tail jig it seems I have been using all season. The water is getting clear for Columbus so I am trying some other colors but the crappie seem to prefer the old stand by.
Sunday I moved to the main river channel expecting to find crappie on the ledges with structure. I caught about 12 fish in 4 hours and not one of them was much over 10 inches. I know the bigger crappie are heading out there or already there I just can not seem to find them.
